- The Gender Spectrum Collection – produced by Vice Media, this stock photo library features images of trans and non-binary models to help media and others better represent folks from these communities. Usage guidelines: images can’t be used for commercial or derivative works; attribution required.
- Sexual Health & Liberation Photo Collection – Offered by Building Healthy Online Communities, this collection of free images taken by Dami Or Photography is for public health agencies and community organizations looking to promote sexual health and safer drug use in their communities. - Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug Public Domain Photo Database – Developed by the Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs, all images in this collection are free and can be used without restriction. Usage guidelines: Images can be used freely with no restrictions; attribution requested but not required (hosted by Pexels which has its own terms & conditions).
- NLM Digital Collections – This site provides access to the National Library of Medicine’s digital content in the areas of biomedicine, health care, and history of medicine. All images are free for use and in the public domain. PLEASE NOTE: Images related to alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs are largely historical and may contain elements considered stigmatizing today.
Finding accurate information about substance use
Misinformation can support harmful stereotypes and add to the negative way people see those who use drugs, so having accurate information is important. These resources can be trusted to give science-based information on many relevant topics. Many of them also explain things in simple ways for general audiences.

- MedlinePlus – Consumer health information from the National Library of Medicine. Pages on topics pull together curated resources from a variety of other vetted sources, and include both text and multimedia education in multiple languages to optimize accessibility of the information for a general audience.
- PubMed Central – National Library of Medicine database of FREE journal articles and other materials related to medicine and health care (including substance use and addiction). For a more comprehensive collection of biomedical research, also visit PubMed.
- LearnAboutTreatment.org – Website about treatment for opioid use disorder and stimulant use disorder from the Addictions, Drug & Alcohol Institute at the University of Washington (UW ADAI).
